A Message for SDCDS Members:

We here at the San Diego County Dental Society are doing our best to keep our members informed of the latest information during these unprecedented events. More than ever, we will try to be a resource to help you manage your business and career. Please follow the recommendations of only emergency care for your patients and postpone all elective and restorative procedures unless failing to do so will likely to lead to an emergency in the near future. I can assure you that you are not the only one struggling with how to take care of your practice, your wonderful staff and their families. As federal policies and solutions come into place officially, we will do our best to disseminate the information. In the meantime, take care of yourselves, call in on loved ones, friends and neighbors to make sure they’re doing okay, and do your best to utilize this downtime for something positive. I wish you all the strength to get through this safely, and look forward to when we can get together again.

In compliance with Governor Newsom’s directive, our SDCDS staff will be working from home for the foreseeable future. Please continue to use the same contact information and we will respond to both phone and email communications.

All our classes and events have been cancelled at least through the end of the month. Some will be rescheduled and others will be held via web access. We’ll be in touch if you have signed up for a course or social event. Please check our website for updates on events at the beginning of each week until we resume a normal schedule.

The ADA and CDA, and the Chief Medical Officer at the County of San Diego have recommended that dentist offices cancel all non-urgent or emergency procedures. SDCDS is following their example in an effort to protect the health of the public, our dentists and their teams. Please remember the ADA, CDA and SDCDS are not regulatory bodies and cannot issue or enforce any mandate. The California State Public Health Officer and Director of the California Department of Public Health is ordering all individuals living in the State of California to stay home or at their place of residence, except as needed to maintain continuity of operation of the federal critical infrastructure sectors. Read more about the Executive Order here.

The US Congress has passed legislation that will help dental practices. HR 6201, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.

Donations Needed

To donate masks, gloves, gowns, and protective eyewear, please bring them to the San Diego County Dental Society which will serve as a central repository for PPE.  If you are able to drop off your supplies, please do so between 9:00am and 5:00pm.  We will then coordinate with the county of San Diego and route your donations to the hospitals which need them most.  Look for Executive Director, Mike Koonce when you arrive and he can help you unload.

If there are dental offices in these other areas that could collect donations, please let us know:  North Coastal, North Inland, East County, South Bay.  If you are open for a few hours a day, we will publish the drop-off times. Then we will send one of our dentist “couriers” to you to pick them up and deliver them to the hospitals that need them.

If you are treating emergency and urgent cases and do not have the appropriate PPE, please contact us – we may be able to help.

Thanks to our dentists, we have donated many hundreds of boxes of gloves and thousands of masks to local hospitals that are running out.  If you have surplus PPE you would like to donate, there are three drop locations:
