Course Description:
Medical emergencies can and do happen in the dental office. It is of paramount importance that we are able to effectively respond to these emergencies. Our patients are counting on us. One of the first steps in managing an emergency is to understand the medications and the equipment that you may need to properly manage your patient’s medical issue. We will be discussing the medications in the typical emergency kit, including a discussion about local anesthesia dosing and over dosage.
There will be one hands-on session for a limited number of participants that will focus on the handling and administration of emergency medications and airway management skills. The session will also include active participation in emergency scenarios. This course is designed so that you can evaluate the emergency systems you have set up in your office.
Course Objectives:
Evaluate your office’s preparation for a medical emergency
A review of local anesthetic dosing, prevention, recognition and management of a local anesthetic overdose
Able to assemble an emergency kit that is comprehensive for your office needs.
Have a thorough understanding of the medications and equipment used in effectively responding to a medical emergency.
