California Dental Practice Act:
This course reviews the DPA topics and regulations that are required for re-licensure including information and updates to the Dental Practice Act and other statutory mandates. Topics include scope of practice, drug prescribing, licensure and qualifications, supervision of auxiliaries, professional conduct, mandated reporting and consent. Examples of law violations, unprofessional conduct and difficult legal challenges will be discussed.
Learning Objectives – Upon completion, the participant shall be able to:

- How DPA regulations define dental practice limits
- How to find answers to legal questions addressed by the DPA
- How the California Dental Board enforces the DPA and where to locate resources to further their knowledge in this topic.
Infection Control for License Renewal:
Meet the Dental Board of California’s requirements for re-licensure and update your knowledge of the most important issues in clinical safety such as the fundamental changes in dental safety standards due to COVID-19. This class outlines the essential components of your infection prevention and control program, combining Standard and Transmission-based precautions. Confirm the most effective strategies and identify the weakest links in dental safety based on science and current CDC Guidelines and State regulations. Updates include strategies against COVID-19, other aerosol- transmitted diseases (ATD’s) and future safety challenges.
Learning Objectives – Upon completion, the participant shall be able to:
- Recognize and manage bloodborne, contact, droplet and airborne diseases
- Recognize and respond to all types of disease exposures with optimal effectiveness
- Minimize the risk of transmitting diseases by optimizing safety strategies.
- Meet CE requirements in CCR section 1005, the Dental Board of California Infection Control Regulations.
About Ms. Nancy Andrews Dewhirst
Ms. Dewhirst graduated from, and was a clinical instructor in Dental Hygiene at University of Southern California and teaches Oral Pathology, Preventive Dentistry and Infection Control at West Coast University Dept. of Dental Hygiene. She is a nationally recognized speaker, author and consultant, focusing on infectious diseases, clinical safety, instrument sharpening, ergonomics and preventive dentistry. Ms. Dewhirst is a “top 100 U.S. Speaker”, and is on the California Dental Assoc., ADA and OSAP speaker’s / Consultants bureaus. Ms. Dewhirst is an experienced author of journal articles, has contributed to textbook chapters and guidelines such as the 2009 ADA Infection Control Wall Poster, CE courses, newsletters, product literature and website content.
