Course Description:
When patients establish their care with you, they entrust you with their dental health and expect a level of competency and professionalism that is worthy of that trust. A patient will have more confidence in a provider who has the ability to communicate with care and compassion. This course examines actual TDIC cases and Advice Line calls to highlight dentistry-focused risk management strategies to reduce the potential for complaints, claims or lawsuits. Understand the importance of properly maintaining thorough health history forms, obtaining and documenting appropriate consent and in-office dispensing of products. And, learn how to apply critical communication skills when untoward and unexpected events, injuries or serious complications occur.
Learning Outcomes:
After completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Conduct more effective informed consent discussions with the patient and the patient’s representative or legal guardian.
- Establish protocols to review the patient’s medical history and implement controls for dispensing products to ensure patient safety.
- Enhance communication skills, using a prompt and transparent approach, to increase the potential for optimal treatment outcomes and reduce the likelihood of untoward results.
